Series II & IIA bases....

Hi there all

Question for the forum series II Guru's

I am in the process of getting a set of seats made (RED TRIM) for the Series II Angus Firefly from UK (Exmoor trims) - good time to buy from the UK with the current exchange rates (cheaper than any upholstery place locally even with freight costs).

As I am new to getting parts from the UK I want to make sure everything right as there one offs (being red) - and too bad to sad if there wrong.

They stated they will make me a set to fit a sereis II and wanting to know is there any difference in the seat bases from the early series II to the IIa's

There are differences in construction, although I think these reflect who built them (i.e. Australian vs UK) and perhaps date rather than model, but all seat cushions are interchangeable from Series 2 to the end of Series 3 production, although there were differences in material and later S3 ones had rib stitching. (My 2a currently has S3 cushions including high backs as were optional on late S3.

I think you right - if I state the year of the vehicle is should be OK..

But there is a slight difference I have found, the early series II's have a fixed drivers seat while the IIa's have a slide arangment (metal adjustable frame)

I know that civvy 2a seats have flat topped cushions, do series 2? I have a brown elephant-hide-esque seat base and back that fits the 2a seatbox perfectly, but has a rounded side profile to the base.
You could perhaps ask if the seats you have ordered are flat topped or rounded, to prevent mix-up.

The sliding driver's seat, as with many such differences, is not a difference between 2 and 2a - it was optional equipment, probably even from 2, but only on 109s. As examples, it was not on my 1961 2a, was on my 1970 2a, but was not on my 1981 3!

These were available for Series 2 and were known as the Deluxe option. Don't know how common they would have been though.

Cost - less than $500 delivered, our local auto trimmer quoted over $600 using old frames and foam?

Well worth it in my opinion......they do green.

As has been said (and pretty redundant now that they have arrived) the difference in the base and backrest is only the difference between the regular ones and the ones for the sitting inside the adjustable frame. The ones for inside the frame being slightly smaller.
