I have not had this problem, although the heater being on the left, the driver's side will always be down a bit. My guess is that either a duct to the RH demister is partly blocked or partly disconnected, or the control is not fully moving to the demist position so that there is simply not enough air to supply both and it is all going to the closer one. 
Not because of poor demisting, but because of uneven heat distribution (wife got hot feet and I got cold feet) many years ago I restricted the heater outlet on the left to help better distribution, so something like this may help. 
Also, make sure that the thermostat is working, as you will never get proper heating and demisting if the engine is not getting up to temperature, and problems are likely to show up first on the RH side for the reason noted above.
