Windscreen demister vent issue

Drove the Defender for the first time in rain + cool temps today. I noticed the drivers side windscreen fogging up, whilst the passenger side was clear. Upon inspection, I noticed almost no air was coming up through the driver side demister vent. Air was streaming out ofthe passenger side.

Anyone know what causes this, and how to fix it?

I have not had this problem, although the heater being on the left, the driver's side will always be down a bit. My guess is that either a duct to the RH demister is partly blocked or partly disconnected, or the control is not fully moving to the demist position so that there is simply not enough air to supply both and it is all going to the closer one.

Not because of poor demisting, but because of uneven heat distribution (wife got hot feet and I got cold feet) many years ago I restricted the heater outlet on the left to help better distribution, so something like this may help.

Also, make sure that the thermostat is working, as you will never get proper heating and demisting if the engine is not getting up to temperature, and problems are likely to show up first on the RH side for the reason noted above.

I had the temp on cold, so lack if heat wasn't an issue. The only issue was the lack of airflow on the drivers-side.

Not sure where to start with this. How/where can I check for blockages or disconnections?

the plastic vent you can see at the top of the dash is the shape of a V. It goes down into a piece of flexible vacuum type hose about 200mm long. The top of the hose fits into the vent the bottom fits into the top of the lower dash (which is the tray area). If either end dislodges it stops air flow. I suspect it will be the bottom end as it is only held in by a rubber grommet type thing.

To check take the top dash panel off and the grey plastic cover at the back of the tray area.

Yep, a friend had this very problem when his Defender was brand new.
The tube was not connected at all behind the gauges. Easy fix once he found it.

they also do dash mounted door window vents for pre Puma models

No luck yet - too scared to start pulling the dash apart, and can't really tell anyway until the colder weather starts!
