    Seeking Answers

    Hi everyone.

I have what could be a very novice question.

Over the last few days of driving, I have noticed that when I take my foot off the accelerator sometimes the rev gauge fluctuates. This only occurs whilst driving, when the car is at idle (in Park or Drive) or at traffic lights, it idles as it should and changes through gears with out problem.

I have cleaned the MAF and as a possible solution, to no avail. Could it be the Throttle Positioning Sensor? Would that cause an intermittent fault?

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

    Kalincho.

.... So your saying that the motor is fine (no problems) .... Just that it is only the tacho that fluctuates?

from what I can hear, yes..

    Normal:
take foot off accelerator, tacho gradually drops until I put my foot on the accelerator again.

    Last Few Days:
take foot off accelerator, tacho drops rapidly, then goes up and down a little, then I put mt foot on the accelerator and all is ok.

This is not happening all the time. In the last weeks it would do it occasionally. This morning from cold it was ok. Stopped, started her up again and on the way back home it started doing it again.

    Any ideas?

on Discos & RRC, the tacho wire is fed off the Alternator ... Others will be able to confirm if yours is rigged up the same way....

In the meantime .... loose connection's?? / Hows your Alternator?

    Thanks Mike for your advice.

I drove the car yesterday and going into work all was good, driving home at night, it started happening again and this time I could hear the engine fluctuate as well.

With my foot off the accelerator, It would quickly drop down from 2k to 1k on the tacho then rev a little higher again.

Does this sound like an alternator issue? I thought for a while it was all in my mind but it is definitively doing it!
