    PUMA...Uneven brake pad wear

    Hi All

While doing the 80,000 km service on my 2007 Puma, I noted that the rear brake pads were wearing very unevenly. The wear is near identical left and right sides, however, in each case the outer par has 3 mm pad left, while the inner has 5.5 mm.

Has anybody else noticed this, and any ideas. I've done the Vic High Country & Simpson, but apart from that, it's mostly highway. I'm not hard on brakes, and have had up to 200,000km on original pads at times, so this surprised me!

My defender has been doing that for 12 years.Vehicles with T/C will also wear the brakes uneven as thats how the system works.Just replace them as needed. Pat

My old rangy '76 used to be the same, got into the habit of swapping pads inner/outer on opposite wheels to even them out.

    Chewed out rear pads

Had a 98 300tdi wagon and a 02 td5 wagon. Both had their rear pads go down to metal after less than 10000kms!!! And both times it was picked up on a Saturday morning with no time to get to shops before they closed at 12 (this was Nowra NSW).

Both cases I used aftermarket pads to replace them and had no issues for 90k afterwards.

With the 02 Td5, the local LR shop told me I was driving in too much mud and sand.....fortunately that business doesn't handle LR anymore.

I don't understand why TC would cause uneven wear.. shouln't it apply the same even pressure accross the pad like normal braking?

If normal braking doesn't apply even pressure then you are not getting the benefit of the entire brake surface.. What am I missing?
