    Defender running short of sparkatrons

My td5 defender's dual battery solinoid wouldn't engage last night.. so did a bit of research today and for no volts coming out of the altinator... and a fridge full of melted butter and warm drinks...

Anyone know where to get a cheap new altinator in melbourne? I think there around $500?

    thanks

    Thanks guys for the shops..

Fitted the new altinator and it is still not charging. only 11.8 volts. altinator is not working... so just paid lots for a new altinator to replace one that is was mostlikly ok... so had enough for one night.

    Fan belt is tight.

Tomorrow ill work my way though the wiring. I am guessing that the field connection is broken some where.. so i have to now work my way though the wires to fine where it has broken though, or a connector has corroded..

I wonder if it was just a fuse... crap why did i think of this now!!!!

Any way if any one has some other idea they would be greatly appreciated!!!

Off to bed and ill worry about it tomorrow....

I had exactly the same problem. LR replaced the alternator and the problem was still there. It turned out the earth cable that goes from the GB to the battery was loose

Just run a second earth from the motor to the battery and see if the Volts jump.
