I've found the workshop manual that can be downloaded from the Landrover Global Technical Reference site (landrovertechinfo.com) (for a fee) is very good.
A technical query……..
I have always prided myself on knowing what goes on under the skin in my vehicles…… the 4x4 system of my Disco II, of the typical 4x4 ute, and my dear little Flandy…… but to date the inner workings of the D3 elude me…..is there anyone out there that can explain it to me or point me in the direction of somewhere I can read up on it…… the sort of thing I am after is how is drive split front and back, how is it locked front and back etc etc…….

Thanks, that is a great summary! A question though, under on road conditions does the central clutch ever change the front/rear split? the reason I ask is that my rear tyres seem to be wearing faster than the front. Against my better judgement, poor Audrey tends to get driven quite enthusiasticallyaround town so with the weight transfer to the rear of the vehicle, does the system apportion more drive to the rear?
