My first post and alot of newbie questions on D3

    Hi All,

This is my official first post, some general questions about the D3 SE V6 (petrol), hope they are not too general

    - What premium unleaded is the car designed for? 95 or 98 ron? Dealer said 98 but I search on the forum and internet with alot of people recommending 95?
    - Would like to get side steps fitted on the D3, easier for the kids to get in and out. Problem is dealer is charging $1700 for it and I am seeking an aftermarket solution for this. Any place in Melbourne sells side steps for D3?
    - Tow tongue, does that comes with the car? or it is an optional item? How much roughly if it is optional
    - The car I am picking up comes with rear entertainment package, does it come with headphones as well?

    Thanks
    Gerald

    Welcome to the fold Gerald.

Q1: 98. It'll run on lesser fuel but the economy is better on 98.
Q3: Mine came with the car. I hate to think what LR will want for one

Sorry, can't help you with the other two questions.

When I got mine with RES s few months ago it only came with 2 headphones (they are really good though), I bought 2 more, cost about $260.00 for thr extra pair.
The tow tongue is an option 7 useless. I think it is about $120.00. I bought an after market tongue from a trailer/4WD place for about $70.00, it has a right angle up turn & allows the trailer to sit level. It does not hit the rear door when it is down though it is close.
Mitchel Bros make a replacement hitch, replaces the whole thing, can't remember the price but it is supposedly good, can't be removed though.
No idea on fuel, mines diesel.
I have seen pictures of an alloy side step, looks cheap & nasty, I went with the LR ones because the are wider & stronger.
Hope this is of some help

Saw that Trivett Parramatta service dept was offering a special on Side steps last week at @ $1300 fitted, I know that won't help you in Melbourne, but maybe you can ask your dealer if they will match it.

I have the LR ones and bashed them about a bit the other weekend and was expecting to see some dings in them, but they appear to be unaffected, very impressed.

Any sidestep needs to be airbag compatible, and none aside from the LR ones will be.

The Mitch Hitch is very easy to remove and requires no modification to the vehicle.

Best would be 98, its runs cleaner & you will get better consuption.

D3 Factory steps are a little exy, but are well built & sturdy, as said see if the dealer can match it, no harm in asking
    - Tow tongue, does that comes with the car? or it is an optional item? How much roughly if it is optional
The tongue is an option, it doesnt come with the car, but a lot of dealers did throw it in on the initial purchase. approx $160.00 for the factory tongue, one of the guys here will chime in wrt the Mitch Hitch.
    - The car I am picking up comes with rear entertainment package, does it come with headphones as well?
Originally any system fitted to the vehicle will come with headphones, either it be factory or aftermarket. Any wireless headphones will work, but only inside the vehicle, once you step out you lose the volume.
A good Alpine set of phones will cost approx. $120.00 each.

    Thanks
    Gerald

The D3 petrol runs fine on 95. I treat mine with 98 if it is payweek

I don't have sidesteps. My 7yo who is short gets in and out no problem. In access height it doesn't seem to be a problem. I haven't really looked at sidesteps though. Plenty of other things I'd spend money on before $1700 for side steps.

    You will love it!!!

Thanks everyone. I think I will put the side steps on hold for now. In regards to the tow tongue, the dealer said it is a series 2 design and it is an improved version of the series 1. He is going to show it to me but the price is alot higher $300. May be I should call other dealership and get a quote.

Another question.. what is the height of the D3 in std form? For example when I go into an under cover carpark, what sign should I look out for? Will I be ok with "Max 1.9M"?

I have a Land Rover tow hitch kicking about (with 50mm ball) if you want it. It weighs a bit but if you pay the postage she is all yours.
BTW I'm a long way from Melbourne & our post is slow even from Brisbane.

I can't remember the height but I think it was 1.8 something. You can lock the car in access height which allows you to drive at a certain speed with the car at it's lowest, I haven't tried it, not many underground car parks around here.

If you want the tow hitch complete with dust PM me sometime.
