Very likely the cam position sensor, this tells the ECU where the cam is in relation to the crankshaft, IE determines advance and retard etc.
Can be efected by heat, poor signal due to increased resistance.

Hello all,
I have a problem with the p38 late 98. It will start when cold but intermittently will not start when hot. I ave replace, a key set tinking it was the imobiliser, no luck. Replaced the crank position sensor, no luck ( runs better though). fuel filter as i though it may be vaporising the fuel, no luck.
next step is to replace wires to crank angle sensor, then if that dosnt work buy a new cam position sensor.
Does anyone out there have any other idears on how to fix this, it is my wifes car and when it stops (wont start) her and the 2 kids get stuck till it cools down enough to start, "not good in this heat".
It runs perfectly when going just wont fire up, and when it does play up it back fires and runs very ruff. till it picks up, then runs perfectly.
Im very stummped all help appreciated.
cheers

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
Check the "trigger" wire on the starter motor.
Voltage drop and heat plus a dirty trigger connection means no start.
Its the SMALL wire on the starter, not the main feed.
Goodluck
