    Gday Ken,

I'm guessing your swivel housings are like mine and only run grease. The earlier models ran grease and then they changed to oil later I think.

Some of the other guys on here will know why some are oil and some are grease. I run oil in mine now and use this to lubricate my wheel bearings as well.

There ar eplenty of useful threads on how to change to oil fed bearings instead of grease, just do a search.

    cheers

Late D1s had grease filled swivels. I think the level plug was deleted then.

Ken, I just measured my defender level plug and made a dipstick
for the disco and filled it with heavy oil. A little extra mucking about
but it seems to work ok...........Mark

DassaW has this back to front.

They ran oil in the beginning with the 3 holes in the swivels to drain, check the level and fill.

LR switched to grease filled for "life" (slack buggers) in around 1996 and also then got ride of the drain hole and level hole, just leaving the top fill hole.
