    I know been asked before

Pretty straight up, i work with a guy who probably built my landrover back on pommy land, he advised against gas conversion but this was his experience in uk 10+ years ago, whats the deal with them these days, who do you recommend, and is the performance equal? all comments are well appreciated! also what engine oil is reccomended i want to use the best there is, also the guy i bought it off had some auto trans fluid that the landrover guys told him to use in the manual gearbox? then the diff oil thats is called gear oil? im confused anyways, show me the light boys! and i know half of you will say " do a search fricken dammit" but i have been seacrhing but the there are so many forums on this page/group that it takes a year to filter them, and i am just finding my way around, so please forgive me!

I've been running a SIII Stage 1 carby 3.5V8 on gas since the mid 90's. The only gas related problems I've had have been with the gas system itself. No gas related issues with the motor.

I use gear oil in the diff. Funny thing though, don't use gear oil in the gearbox. It damages your bank balance.

As far as the diff is concerned I would be using Hypoid gear oil designed for diffs I use min 90 weight EP, gear (gearbox oil) oil should be used in the gearbox, I use Castrol VMX80, Regards Frank.

My 3.5 has been running on gas since the early 90s - no issues.

As far as the gearbox is concerned - Landrover originally specified ATF as suitable MTF was not available - in about 96 Landrover then specified MTF94 for disco boxes. The box has an internal oil pump so normal weight MTF cannot be used - these days most go with Castrol Syntrans as the modern alternative to MTF94 - is a bit expensive but works really well over a range of temperatures. I had it in my Disco in Canberra - really minus temp starts in winter to 40c days in summer - SynTrans always worked well.
