    Blinker unit - 110 County

The blinkers have quit on my 110. Never having had a problem before, it took me a while to find the blinker unit! I have now determined that the unit is almost certainly the problem - not fuse, not switch (Hazards don't work either anyway) so it just about has to be this.

I have it out and will pull it apart to see if I can find the problem, but assuming this fails, or the fix is temporary, can anyone advise whether the unit is a standard type for which replacements are readily available - and if so, got a brand/number? (One I removed is Hella 4DM003 360-00 (4DM004 420-04))

John, don't rule out the hazard light switch. I have repaired a few of these thinking the problem was the can and each time was in this hazard switch. I was able io pull the switch apart and clean the contacts. From memory the can gets it's supply through this switch.

    Happy New Year, Erich.

Can't find that number in my Hella catalogue. Is it a solid state electronic flasher? How many pins, or female sockets? Square or round? Metal or plastic case? Closest is 4DM 003 460-02. Hella part nos. are four digit like 3016, 3028.

Four pin, square, transparent blue plastic case - has a circuit board inside but appears to have a relay in it as well, so not totally solid state.

Thanks for the tip - I'll check continuity through it - its already hanging out of the dash. The hazard switch is not too old - I had to replace it about ten or twelve years ago when it fell to bits.

And yes, the power does get to the blinkers via the hazard switch.

John, found in an older catalogue. It is part no. 3035 Caravan/trailer conversion flasher unit and suits British Leyland.

Good point...mine fell apart in my hands recently....grabbed one out of a defender dash I had laying around and fixed the prob temporarily until the flasher went on the blink.

Well, it is fixed for now, at least temporarily. Turns out there were two faults. The flasher unit was not working - fixed it by pulling it apart and cleaning the contacts. Then while testing it tried the hazard lights and found that after that it either worked or not when you wiggled the hazard switch. So pulled it off, pulled it apart and re tensioned the contacts.

FWIW - While in Oz, I had a few problems with my flasher unit...

To cut a long story short, I eventually put it down to complete lack of use!

Thousands of km on the dirt and it just decided to give up... After we had been on the black stuff for a while and driving in the cities, it suddenly came back to life and has been fine ever since??!!??
