    Indicators fail but Hazards work?

I have a problem on my 2004 Defender. The indicators are not working at all, nor can I hear any clicking when I turn them on either way. However, the hazard lights and all indicators come on when I use it? I have seen several people mention it could be the hazard switch itself that is faulty but how can I check it and prove it? Any help would be welcome.

Almost certainly the hazard switch itself, although it could be the combination switch.

The switch can be disassembled by carefully prying the top and bottom apart where the catches hook over each other. Careful! Watch for flying bits and where the bits come from. Once you have it apart, you will probably find the spring contacts have lost their tension and can be carefully bent to give good contact.

You can also check continuity - unplug the switch and check from the circuit diagram which connection is which and check continuity in both psitions.

Thanks John. I had a look at the switch to try and fix it as they wanted $100 for a new one! Trouble is I still wasn't sure if it was the problem. The switch seemed OK so I went back to basics AGAIN and checked all the fuses ... couldn't believe I had missed one! I changed the 10 amp fuse in the bank of fuses in front of the gearshift and bingo! all was OK ... Many thanks for your help, inspired me to look again before panicking. Cheers mate.

There are 2 seperate relays controlling these functions. TDI has them in the fuse panel infront of the gear lever, they are on the right hand side of the panel from memory, If all your fuses are Ok then try the relays.
    I hope this amkes sence.
