Buy your tyres elsewhere.
I just got back from Bridgestone who were meant to put my new 604v 7.5s on my 96 Defender.
He looked at my rim and said "No thanks" I have a tubeless rim and the 604v s are tubed tyres. But i run them with tubes, I explained. Ive had these for 60000 and they're fine. He said I know theyre fine but my insurance company and your insurance company say otherwise.
Now what do I do? Back to the bank breaking Michelins I guess. I can't even find ZXLs on their own website let alone find them in shops.

Buy your tyres elsewhere.
So what you are saying is...
If someone has tubeless rims and they run a tubed tyre with a tube in them their car in the eyes of the insurance company is unroadworthy /not legal??
correct??

Yes, the fact that I'm using tubes is beside the point. What I'm saying is a tyre designated as a tube tyre cannot be run on tubeless rims. If you want to put a tube in a tryre designated as tubeless on a tubeless rim, and many do then that's fine.
I have since spoken to the tyre guy down the road from the main independent LR service centre in Perth and he says there is no design rule that says you can't put a tubed tyre on a tubeless rim and his Bridgestone colleague is wrong. I am taking my car out for him to look at the rims in person and subject to what he sees he's going to either set his colleague straight or ask him to send the tyre to him to put on.
I'll let you know. It will all come out in the wash but I wish just once, something will work out simple, the way it should, rather than require running all over town.

by the letter of the law its the other way round.
you can run a tube tyre on a tubeless rim providing you fit a tube.
you cant run a tubless tyre on a tube type rim.
ask for his insurance company to provide in writing the regulations they are quoting from.

Let me get this straight. You have the (less common) tubeless type 110 rims?
Surely 604Vs are tubeless type tyres???
This is the first I have heard about not being able to fit a tube-type tyre to a tubeless rim (when using a tube).
If it was me I would either buy a different tyre (Wrangler TGs are good) or change tyre fitters.
Well after a 30 minute drive out to bentley so Bridgestone guy Number 2 could look at my rims for himself and then a 30 minute drive back and I know now the Bridgie guy number one was mistaken.
I have tube rims. So the 604v is absolutely fine with my rims. Bridgie Guy 2 rang Bridgie Guy 1 and set him straight. So now I go back to B1 who is now okay with selling me the tyres. Bridgie 2 deserves my custom, but Bridgie 1 has the only set of 4 604s in Perth.
Thanks for letting me share my mini drama on the board even though I led was led and led you guys in a complete circle.
bridgstone can do store to store transfers.
If you feel that strongly about it (and I would under my customer loyalty theory) you can go to B2, order the tyres and they will show up in b1s stock and be transportet to B2 within about a week.

Hi Blknight, I thought the same thing.
B2 did not wish to pursue this option. And while B1 was mistaken, he was acting in good faith and turning away custom because he didn't believe buying those tyres was in my interest.
Anyway Perth people now know that the Bridgie man down the road from Kevin Falconbridge, who sends him a lot of Landy work is a good guy and knowledgeable about our cars.
