Go to your local bearing place and price them seperatley
then price the seals. Expect to pay around $30+ each bearing
then you will need thrust washers. Try everywhere. then add up the cost of running around to save $2. Then go back to look at the kit on fleaBay.
Be warned there is a lot of cheap chinese bearings that arn't worth a squirt of cold tea out there.........
Remember when you are doing gearboxes you sort of want to do it right the first time. Will put you in a crappy mood when you have it all finished and you have to pull it out again because you took a short cut..........

Your choices are buy a kit from anyone for whatever you feel is fair. Karcraft, BMI,Rovacraft...the list goes on
    Or buy individual units
But as previuosly mentioned. NOTHING made in China, EVER. Bearings are a precision bit of gear.

Ensure if you buy bearings as individuals that the numbers match in all aspects. Because a change in letter designation may give you the same dimensions but can be a big difference in Bearing tolerance and performance/ loading etc. NTN, Timken, Koyo are good quality. SKF bearings are variable with some common numbers being made in China (though unlikely for the style units you need)

What is wrong with the Chinese ones?

Poor surface finnish, poor metallurgy.(hardness / toughness/ tolerance = durability and load cabability).....the most important things in a bearing.

    Cheers

I have no connection what so ever with that company
Yes i have bought only gasket sets and various things
I get most of my bearings & seals From Bearing services here where i live
But you will be going to find NOS stuff now days so you will have to take what come these days. Just that if someone supplies a kit with all the parts that you require why run around and get parts seperatly ?...........

    Regarding 'Chinese' bearings :-
Most, if not all the major bearing companies have manufacturing facilities in China (for example NSK have 7 plants and SKF have 11, Timken manufacture there and NTN & Koyo have joint ventures) so Chinese manufacture is not the problem. The issue is when the manufacturer cuts corners to reduce costs.
Bearing 'quality' depends on the quality of the steel and the manufacturing procedures/tolerances/inspection etc. etc. Yes, China is generally known for low quality components but there is some very good stuff coming from there as well. It wasn't that many years ago we had the same attitude to Taiwanese products.....

Like most people I would prefer to use a 'name brand' bearing, especially in something like a transfer case. With the 'name brand' bearing you have an assurance of quality but it may well have been manufactured in China anyway.......

If you buy a kit maybe ask what brand bearings are in it . Should you decide to put together the bearings & seals yourself then why not post a list of the part numbers when you are finished......

You hit the nail right on the head. I work in China every six weeks and I was talking to an American guy who has a JV and he was telling me that they had a problem with some sealed bearings that they were supplied failing. When they opened the bearing up they found the Chinese had removed one ball to make it cheaper. I guess the important thing to remember is in Australia manufacturing is dead and just about everything we buy comes from China. Just remember that the stuff from China is cheap so don't pay too much you will just be getting ripped off.
