Free wheel hubs

I've got 3 free wheel hubs sitting in a box in the shed taking up space. Two appear to be 10 spline, the other has lots of splines, I assume 24. One of the 10 spline hubs seems to be in 2 bits with some loose screws.

I was going to ebay them, but I'm reluctant to do that without knowing their condition. Is there any way of looking at them and seeing if they work? Any hints or tips? Is there any market out there for these items?

There are a number of different brands and models to fit Series Landrovers - some are little more than scrap value, even when new. I do not know how big demand is for them, but I doubt it is all that high. Their advantage is only marginal in my view.

A strip and clean up and inspection should show the condition pretty clearly - they will incorporate a dog clutch of some kind and a bearing between the body and the bit that has the splines. If nothing is missing or broken, and the bearing turns smoothly, and the engagement mechanism moves correctly, it is probably OK.

It depends a bit on the make. If they are Cutlas Powerlock I might be interested in buying them. They should have a brand name on them if they're going to be worth anything, I think. They're simple, solid and effective except for the nylon bearing (I've replaced mine with home-made double sliding brass bearings - much better)

these are very good extras. they save tyre wear, improve fuel consumption. i have been driving series landys for years and have always used 3 wheel hubs. i have only seen 2 types, the ones you have to get out of the vehicle and turn the centre to put in 4x4 or the ones which are automatic, you dont have to get out they automatically engage when needed. i have both types but am using " superwinch " the first type mentioned. wouldn,t be without. by the way, the auto ones split into varios bits.
