Cruise Control on a 2005 Defender.

I've just fitted cruise control to my 2005 Defender TD5. I've taken my 12v feed from pin 33 in the ECU and I've tested it with a multimeter and 12v is being supplied to the correct pins as described in the instructions on this forum.

The problem is that it won't bloody work!!

I plugged in my Nanocom and that showed my clutch switch as "off" whether the pedal was pressed or not. I have read that cruise control won't work without it so I replaced the switch. That didn't work, still "off". Then I tested it and it seems to be switching a negative rather than 12v. Is this correct?? I was led to believe it should be switching 12v, or is this something Land Rover have changed on later models?

Please help, this is doing my head in!

Clutch switch not working will stop / not disengage cruise.

It also needs the foot-brake switch to be working as that cuts it (cruise) out also.

I know people that have had it working on 2002 models through to 2006. Mine is a 2006 and it works fine. I know one guru that even had it working on the non-flashable MSB ecu's.

As a side note, if you have non-standard gearing it probably wont work... ecu is pretty cleaver in that respect. I know it works with standard tyres and disco gearing, but anything over that and it seems to refuse to work.

Are you sure its wired up correctly? The ecu / inputs & outputs thereof are the same from 2001 through to end of manufacture.

Its a year or more since I did one, but from memory you need to link pin10 & pin35. Pin35 supplies the +12v when the clutch is NOT pressed and pin 10 is a normally closed switch to the brake pedal. Thus if the clutch or brake is pressed either the 12v feed is cut or the ecu isolates pin 10, resulting in the cc dropping out.

    Pin 15 = master on/off
    Pin 11 = set / accelerate
    Pin 17 = suspend / resume

    Hope that helps

    Jon

Thanks for the response. Its much appreciated.

Everything on my truck is standard and I'm 99.9% sure its wired up correctly.

The only thing that doesn't seem to be working (according to Nanocom) is this clutch switch. The problem is that I can't test it properly because I don't know how it works. I don't know if its supposed to be a switched earth or a switched 12v, or if the feed comes from the ECU or runs to it.

99% sure that when you press the clutch in (pedal to the floor) the switch stops feeding +12v into pin 35... so in the event that the cruise is operating, pressing the clutch in kills the feed so the cruise drops out.
