    Suspension warning light on D3

    The suspension warning light (orange) came on a couple of weeks ago. Finally got it into a landrover service centre. (had to get it there urgently because it decided to stay locked and wifey couldn't get in but that's another story) They said air compressor was 'weak' and needs to be replaced!!
    Firstly, what the hell is a 'weak' compressor. The next piece of unfathomable news was that a new compressor would be $1100 and have to come from England. wtf??? surely these things would be held in stock in Aus.

    Anyhooo, has anyone had to replace the compressor due to 'weakness' before?

    Strangely, wifey ,aka minister of finance, said I could have a D4 if I sold the D3 and my old faithful D1 'cept there are supposedly no new vehicles available in the country until July. It would be my 4th Disco and I still don't know why I do it to myself.

    I need to start a Landrover hate thread for those who keep buying Landrovers.

    At the end of the day it's a motor running a pump, so it could be the windings are shot or the pump (compressor) is leaking. Ring MR, Knights or Ricks on the GC and ask them for a price.

    New parts are expensive but more so the labour to repair them.

    Try and see if you can get the dryer only replaced before you replace the whole thing.

    Hi Fatnold

    Has a similar issue where my compressor errored and reset after restarting the vehicle. Eventually it stayed on permanently. (Christmas this year) Off to LR and told it was an overheating compressor (according to the code) and needed replacement.

    Also told the same 10 day story and was flabbergasted that this component was not available in Australia!!! (I was also quoted $1500)

    If you talk to Rovacraft they are overly helpful and had stock on NSW, VIC and WA and sold me a new one for $950 delivered next day.

    The most upsetting part was….once fitted the system would still not pressurise up. It turns out that the issue was a loose fitting in a “banjo” joint (Front left on mine) which is where the pipe from the tank meets the gas strut.

    Once they tightened this all was OK. I suspect there was nothing wrong with my compressor and the overheating was from having to constantly pressurise the reserve tank due to an air leak.

    I have the old part and one day when I have time I’ll pull it apart and see if there was really a problem!
