Oil leak F1 td4

My Freelander appears to be pushing oil out through the dipstick tube, I suspect some sort of problem with cankcase ventilation??
Has anyone had this and what was the solution?

Yes, there is a crank case breather filter. You have to remove the air filter cover and there is a cover with 4 hex headed bolts. remove it and there is your filter. If left to long it can caused turbo failure

Thanks for info, its been serviced by local 4x4 workshop, but not landrover specialists, so may have been overlooked

I believe these filters were supposed to last the life of the car, but I note in the BMW site re the same engine, they say wash it every 40K in white spirit. I have done 240K and oil did blow out the dipstick... and lots of other places. Like the heads-up re the impact on turbo.

What Ks did your PCV filter blockage occur?

I have found a domed cover in the middle of the injetors on the top of the motor. Can see it without ail filter off. It looks like looks like you somehow prize it off - I cant see hex screws. I have a 2001 Td4 auto. Any hints? Do I need a new seal or something before I pull it off?

You will have to remove air filter cover to get to it and there is 4 hex headed screw that hold the cover on. Once you remove air filter cover you will see the 4 screws.
If it has the original filter in it you wont be able to wash out. The newer style you can The older style looks like a cotton real where the newer is a foam material.
If you get the part listed below it comes with the seal.

Woko, can you explain how the blocked PCV can cause the turbo to fail? Ta, D

Basically the turbo doesn't drain the lubricating oil efficiently when crack case is pressurized or oil is over full, and the turbo bushes/bearings over heat and fail.

Gee, I would have thought the oil pressure pushing through the bearing (which is supposed to be 1.5 Bar) would far exceed the pressure in the crank space. We live and learn. Will click a thanks for that one.
