New cars don't need a early first service like they used to years ago.
Oils have come a long way in recent years.
You might even find that the 12000km service is a local addition - I think UK first service is 24000km.
Just wondering if anyone else is curious as to why the first service for the Disco 4 (after leaving the showroom), is 12,000Klm. I would have thought that draining the oil & changing the filter on a new motor (diesel in my case) would have come sooner?
Would be interested in comments.

That's the standard service intervals, offroaders/towers should be using the arduous-use intervals which are half that.
