Best Tyres D3 (moved from FAQ)

HI Guys I have D3 HSE, I'm just about to replace my 2nd set of tyres, both sets have been Goodyear Wranglers, done approx 45000 ks on each set, but out of the 90000 plus ks 50000 ks have been towing a 2.5 ton caravan I'm looking at Toyo, Yokohama or Pirelli. Your thoughts much appreciated

Do you have 17s, 18s or 19" wheels? I have 18s on mine and have General Grabber AT2s fitted. They are a little noisy and not alot of grip in the wet but otherwise seem to wear well and no trouble with the dirt rd to my house. I have crossed the Simpson with them. If you are mainly on road there maybe something else less aggressive and therefore not as noisy. Hope that helps.

Am about to swap to a set of these (after much thought and discussion), and this statement is a little worrying...... my time is about 50/50 dirt roads/highway....... and not a lot of grip in the wet at highway speed is a worry........

Yeah they (AT2s) are not that bad. You won't have a problem.

I'm not that impressed with the way the General Grabbers have worn espically offroad, they have picked up a lot of nicks and cuts.

I wouldn't recommend them.

For 19" AT's, the Pirelli's are your only current option. Apparently Dunlop will be introducing one soon - although it'll fit, it's oversize (at 275/55/19).

The Goodyear MTR's are still available, but a bit more aggressive.

I've done 15,000km on my 18" Pirelli ATRs with no dramas at all. Good on anything but mud.

GG AT2s hang on all right on wet bitumen IMHO.
