opening winscreens

The one in faded "dark earth" is Garry F's in South Africa. It was originally an ambulance and I suspect the white vehicle in the adjacent image also one.

Does yours have opening doors at the rear?

My "Gog" was a radio relay van, and only has the side door.

ruth only has the one side door, was on the pass side but some one has moved it to the drivers side and fitted a standard landy door !!

plan is to move the door back to where it should be and make a neater job of it !!

Great pic, but what a scary thought lifting off the body! :o

This is my "Gog" on the drive up from Melbourne, although it's going back to it's original SADF external presentation. (Hopefully getting it correct if I can find out all the configurations and tactical markings).

Quite possibly these "white-washed" vehicles were used under the United Nations flag for peacekeeping forces in somewhere like Namibia. Australian Military Land Rovers and Unimogs used there in UNTAG (United Nations Transition Assistance Group - established 1989) were certainly painted white. See: UN Transition Assistance Group

The ex-British Army Series 1s, 2As and Lightweights used by United Nations forces in Cyprus (particularly UNCIVPOL - United Nations Civilian Police) were all painted white pretty badly like this.

I do not think that all the SADF FCs had the opening wind screens, but can't be sure.
I had a good look today at 33200330F and 33200461F, and both seem to have the original wind screen frames, comparing the paint to the rest of the vehicle etc. There seems no evidence that the windscreens have been replaced or that the second frame for opening had been removed. Both vehicles were manufactures in '74. The body on 461F was manufactured in '77.

Maybe the later bodied vehicles did not have this feature, including yours.

Sad to say R102 (my brown monster) has passed on to the local scrappy and is on her way to China...
I stripped off everything worth saving and still have 2 of the flip up windscreens.

The flip screen was also used as the top window on the S2 Caboose

JPC...any news if my S2B crewcab was one of the originals (5) I have checked all the usual places and it seems to have all original spot welds and rivits (none of those "poppy" things)
