Thanks for the suggestions folks cos it seems no one hires car trailers these days.....in Brisbane anyway.

Happier to drive the old girl if I'm not solo.....I will take Friday off to get there.....but reckon I'd want to drive all the way there to make my time at the pull worth it.....really keen to get a few Landys out there, even non series, as the local farmers are quite honoured to have us coming and are keen for us to be a part of it.....if I can find a trailer, I'll do it that way, unless we get a Series convoy which would deem driving her there more doable in my mind anyway.

    BP Oxley

    Dan,

    Hello again from Brisbane.

I seem to recall that the BP in Oxley Rd suburb of like name were a rental outlet for trailers, including tandem car trailers. May well still do - I could check.

Not sure what the lesser of two evils actually is - driving a Series 1 700 odd kms or towing a loaded tandem trailer the same distance.

Not sure if you have actually been to Coolatai before, but you may know the region well from UNE days.

The last time that I drove between Moree and Brisbane, I actually came through Warialda to Yetman and on to Texas and Stanthorpe via Glenlyon and thence to Brisbane via Killarney - all in a diesel 4 X4 of Japanese providence.... Coolatai is roughly mid-way between Warialda and Yetman. All very scenic and a great drive.

The region is aptly named the north west slopes and New England Tableland for good reason - there being more than the odd windy bit with hills scattered thereabouts. The Stanthorpe to Texas leg is quite hilly as are parts from Yetman to Texas away from the river and floodplain.

The Bruxner from Tenterfield to Yetman is not too bad as is the more northerly route via Leyburn and Inglewood to Yetman.

So, not entirely sure that towing a vehicle through there is any great shakes either. But then it's a fair old ask of a 60 year old vehicle too. Just one opinion of many and no doubt will be open to challenge and others' experiences.

    Cheers,

    Neil

    G'day Neil,

Yes, I do know the country all around there from my time working at UNE, and agreed, it is beautiful country.....one reason I'm trying to get this trip up and running.

I don't really mind driving Matilda there as long as I have some support should things go wrong - I'd prefer to tow her on a trailer, but what shall be will be. I can actually sort most break down issues on her now - I'm getting quite the cocky mechanic aren't I, but another vehicle and my tow rope would be good insurance!

I don't expect any trouble. She holds her fluids after her rebuild, even over a long hot summer and she now sports a new electronic ignition system. I also carry a traditional 25D dissy just in case. Still, it's not so long since her rebuild and I just want to tread lightly until I know her inside out.

I've rung all sorts of servos etc and simply can't find a trailer. If you are going past, ask the question sure.....at the end of the day, if others are coming and are willing to drive at S1 pace, which means taking most of Friday to get there, then I'm mad enough to do it.....

Well, thanks - I do need the servo to be kinda near Ipswich if possible. I have rung servos that advertise the hire of car trailers. None I have found, still actually do.

I'll make a list tomorrow of all the servos within a 25km radius, ring them all, and post the results.

    Hi Dan,
You can hire them in Strathpine half day, full day and weekend rates. Let me know if you are interested and I can get you some prices etc.

Thanks Jerry, but Strathpine is too far away for me....I'll ring every servo in Ipswich tomorrow....if other places hire car trailers still, then why not anywhere near me? No Uhaul servos have any, I know that for a fact.

Would a Series 3 (and a tow strap) help your cause ??

If I drive her there yes, it would be some insurance. I'm not expecting trouble, but it is a long way out of my 100km RACQ tow limit! But again, I'd prefer to trailer her there. I'm doing the servo 25km radius ring around tomorrow.
