    Exclamation Incorporation Meeting November 2011

very nice to put faces to forum names last night, even though the penny didn't drop for me, with some of you, till I got back on the forum this morning. Look forward to the next catch up.

CC thanks for the spread, and your time, you have gone to a lot of effort so tahnks and well done. I think you almost have half the empires landies in the back yard, just that one at a time thing I guess.

    go the slow

    Thumbs up

Thank-you all for attending, and helping construct your new club.

I am definately not alone in stating our first official gathering was extremely productive and a huge success. Thank-you to all involved.

For those that couldn't attend, or missed parts of it, on Sat morning I was called away to do a job for one of my clients. On returning I had called past the bottle shop to get some beer, and met out international division of SLOW and invited them around for a chat. I arrived home to find Wabashford already here and The General had sorted him out with a cup of tea.

The Ho Hars arrived and after a few false starts some spannering on the Stage 1 was attempted. We gave up after it didn't seem to be working, lured upstairs for some nibbles. Extreme arrived and after some more dithering about , we then decided to pull the 55 series 1 out and start the dismantle. A bit of a shuffle was neccesary to clear the workspace and at the same time Killer, Scallops arrived.

A quick shuffle and we had 2 vehicles lined up to work on. Thanks to Wabashford for restoring the clutch in my stage 1, and to the rest of the gang for stripping the Series 1. It was quite a productive afternoon with spannering , people arriving and the series 3 out from England dropping in.

Colin and Rose are travelling around Australia in their ex-MOD FFR fitted with a Tdi300 and custom Chesterfield rear loungue. Lovely people and fitted in with the rest of us leafer nuts perfectly. Alot of vehicle scrutineering and pleasantries were enjoyed for some time, while the rest of the club members kept arriving.

The sun was beginning to set, so the spannering was abandoned for the preperation of dinner and the meeting. Incisor, Narelle, Pop58 and Nan arrived just in time. Our meeting was very productive, with alot of people chipping in to help make our club work. Thank-you all. A few deserts brought by our lovely ladies(and Harry), some tea and coffee and we pretty much called it a night.

I have to say a huge thanks to my wife The General. She was completely under the weather, but did a massive amount to make the night run smoothly, and without her, like most times in life, I would have been completey lost.

Again thank-you all for coming, enjoying our hospitality, working on my vehicles and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. I know I did.

    CC

edit: The General would like to add, thanks to the ladies for doing all the washing up, and our little princess Lily for helping her all day and night

    Dear Michael and Cheryl,

Thanks to you both for opening your home, so full of love, to all of us yesterday....it was a lovely afternoon and evening, so far removed from any regular car club meeting. The dinner was a credit to all concerned, so I thank everyone for their contribution to that too.

I enjoyed talking to our first "International Chapter" members, Colin and Rose, their Series2A/3/TDI was quite the expedition vehicle, was it not? We all had a good laugh when I asked them if they had journeyed through Persia and the Punjab to reach our shores....only to be told they got off the boat in Sydney!

I took some photos last night, so allow me to share these with everyone. Apologies for the quality of these, the photographer was clearly enjoying his non designated driver status, and with Kat 2000km away in Bendigo, why not?

Colin and Rose tell it as it is....

No guesses from whence they came....

Colin explained that as their truck had become their home, their chesterfield had become their bed....

    The Wessex wanderer....

One wouldn't want to get these 2 mixed up! So don't tell anyone that I swapped the labels over!

This is what a 300TDI looks like in a Series engine bay....

We all settled in for a feast....

    Our gracious hosts...

    Our gracious host...

I'd also like to thank all the members who turned out and contributed to a great meeting. I like the way this operates, as a collective, with all the membership intimately involved in the details of our meetings. I think it will become very evident to all that SLOW is here to stay and we will become a very successful club. That is testimony to those who have included themselves in these activities. Thank you, everyone concerned.

A British traveller drops by for a cup of tea

    G'day all,
we'd like to say a huge thankyou to Michael and Cheryl, who done an outstanding job organizing the first official meeting of SLOw.

The food was delicious. Dad and I thoroughly enjoyed the evening with fellow classic Landrover enthusiasts.
And what a museum of classic Land Rovers CC has there. . . .

What a surprise it was to see an expedition prepared Series 3, with a Chesterfield lounge in the back! (Yes - I said a Chesterfield lounge). . . visiting Australia on it's adventure.

Thanks again Michael, Cheryl and kids for your hospitality, and we look foward to future trips we shall enjoy with the members of SLOw.
