An early start to make sure I was to get to Wyaralong Dam saw me idle out the drive at 6. The car ran well for the motorway and highway run to Mt Joyce recreation park on Beaudesert-Boonah road.
Lucky ran well for the 55 model he is, and maintained the usual cruse speed of 50mph on the flats. Producing hill flattening speeds slowing to 35mph on some; just to keep the land cruiser behind me really happy. Bit funny how the 4l t turbo diesel just couldn’t produce anything more than tail gate my little 2lt.

For the MTB riders amongst us. Don’t go there any time after mid Spring, far to hot, you will die, There is a pleasant water’s edge ride around to some steep climbing to the top of Mt Joyce. The runs down are fun and appropriately graded for MTB terms, but could do with a little more use.

For the camper amongst us: hard to find the official camp site but there is a clearing like a heli pad which produces a nice vista for a tent. I didn’t see a big H so I guess its the camp grounds. Full sun however so the poly will cop a beating and become just that bit less water proof. The site is surrounded by bollards for your convenience and about 35meters from the dunny block. Also no swimming in the dam, don’t you just want to go.

For the day trippers / BBQers amongst us. This is Mt Joyce’s strongest assert, come for a bit but make make sure you bugger off as the gates close at 6pm. There are a few sheltered picnic tables, but several are not. The ground in general is not all that flat, but is around the tables, and yes, just a small lug for the esky bad all you picnic gear down the hill from the road lined by bollards. Perhaps a good day run for a series in winter as it is nice to pass time staring at the dam and surrounding hills. But overall in my book, one can do better.
