We are all waiting to here Keith's story on the highs & lows at the Samford Show . Like all good stories it has a happy ending I am sure. We were lucky he had the bird cage there on Sunday , made a good wind brake.

Thanks for the photos Wayne. Good job
I did not get around to taking any.
Got home yesterday PM after an uneventfull run back with the wind up our tail. Managed 5th gear most of the way at 100 k,s and 2,500 rpm.

As mentioned one of the announcers father was a driver of one of the Royal cars and after seeing the photo of the Royal I display claims that the driver in the photo is his father.
It was organised that he would ride in the rear during the grand parade and tell the story but HRH had other ideas.
Despite me starting it before hand and warming it up when we got to enter the ring the engine died. There was a direct short showing -20 on the ammeter and tripping the circuit breaker I had installed.
We got a tow back to the camper while the show went on.
Out with the screwdriver and removed the dash, no sign of a short anywhere.
It was only because someone standing in front said the lights were coming on when I reset the CB that the penny dropped and realised the short was in the ign/light switch.
Removed the switch , pulled the two ign wires through the hole, reinstalled the dash, clipped the bare ends together with a plastic spring clamp, hit the starter and we were in business again.
We then got to do a lap on our own with the son in the back with Trevor telling the story.
The father is 92 and in a nursing home but the son says he will be tickled pink to see the photo of his old car.

Bottom line is , if I had not installed that 20 amp circuit breaker/ switch then the smoke would have escaped and things would have been a lot worse. I had it happen once before with a short in the ammeter so I put a CB in all these old cars now. A direct short to earth cooks the wires before one can pull the battery terminal.

Great to hear it all turned out well in the end Keith, it is also great that you have found another piece in the historical jigsaw puzzle of the royal.

    Cheers, Mick.
