    "Kilkivan Great Horse Ride" 2016

    What a great day!

I started preparing Madge for the trip a few weeks ago when i got club sponsors MR Automotive to do up the front end, replacing swivel pins balls etc etc etc etc

On saturday moring I was up and on the go @ 04:00 and Madge and I made our way up to the event over the next 3 hours or so.

I went for a SLow drive around the town and found the showgrounds where the vast majority had spent the night and then proceeded to the main street where we were displaying the vehicles.

Not long after i pulled up Keith and John rolled up with the first of Keith's magnificent fleet so i parked up beside John's 1957 Station wagon and settled in for what turned out to be a very nice day in the country.

A little later The Sunshine Coast Land Rover Club members rolled up with their fleet of vehicles.

The park over the road was the main venue for the stalls and many of the attractions and i spent a quiet hour or so wandering around them before proceeding up the street to look at the dog show and the attractions ranging from machinery to sweet and sour licorice!

The main event of the day was the grand parade in which well over 450 participants rode their steeds up the main street, lead by Keiths magnificent 1954 Royal land rover

Many thanks for the invite Keith! i was extremely impressed with the day...

Madge and I took off about 18:00 and headed on home.

About 20 minutes into the journey i remembered i had left the army number plates on so pulled over when i got the chance and luckily they were still attached!

About an hour so into the journey the front prop-shaft decided to have a hissy fit so i had to stop and disengage it and continue on.

just up the road from British Offroad the toro overdrive decided to squeal its head off and vibrate like hell... so it was disengaged and i had to proceed at a much reduced pace.

I trundled through the front door at home around 21:00 so it ended up being a long day.

new front shaft has been ordered from Roverlord Offroad Spares and i drained the oil out of the toro overdrive and as expected it was full of shiny stuff so it looks like i need to drop it out and see what needs rebuilding. hopefully it is just bearings tho i not sure i can even get them so the future is a little unknown.

I need the vehicle running for a few small trips over the next month, so i replaced the oil with some new 90sae and a dose of CEM AW0 anti wear additive in the hope that it hangs together till i get the time to remove it.

    Commiserations.

    Dave,

Hello again and thanks for the company at Kilkivan.

Sorry to hear that your journey home was not entirely trouble free. However, while mine went smoothly enough, the washing machine at home and my wife's Golf appear to have gone out on a sympathy strike.

    Cheers,

    Neil
