    Made by Rover tag

Keith, I didn't get a shot of your firewall whilst at the meet could you please post up a picture (or diagram) that shows the "manufactured by The Rover Co. Ltd. Birmingham England" rectangular tag's location.
I have some mysterious holes on the firewall to the right of the steering column but they are set out in a square rather than rectangular pattern?? Any clues?
    Regards
    Glen

    ID plates

The bigger plate on the left is Annand and Thompson.
Next smaller is the Rover plate.
On RHS of dash is the Hi Lo instructions
None have any holes on RHS of column.
One of the others has a Qld Machinery oval tag near the Rover plate but thats all I can find.
    Hope this helps.

I just received a PM from Diana in response to my query but as she is not a SLO member she couldn't post so I have taken the liberty (if it works) to replicate her post here.

In the 1950 yellow button models, the Car Number was to the LHS of the steering wheel with the instructions for the freewheel unit which changed in 1951 to the ID plate with selectable 2WD/4WD
On the A&T vehicle there is a brass plate (see below) mounted in a similar place to this plastic Grenville motors plate (Immediately below), the gal bracket at the edge is the hook for the windscreen hold clamp.

In this set of 1951 Annand & Thompson plates. The large one at the top was on the flat panel just in front of the radiator. The middle one was on the LHS facing the front passenger and the bottom one where the Grenville one is in the top image.

I gather by this post that my tag should be in the engine bay on the left hand side of the firewall (which I take to be the near side) as Sweetpea is a May 1950 build with the freewheel gearbox and yellow button rather than a ring pull and was delivered through the Grenville Motors system. The Transfer case instruction notice to the left of the steering column tells me to depress the yellow knob to engage 4WD in reverse even when in Low range.
(And I always thought the newer plastic Rovers were rather precious having full time 4WD.) Just goes to show there isn't that much that is new in today's world!

I omitted to mention, the Rover Co plate opposite the passenger, was only fitted to some 1949 and most 1950 models but was gone by the advent of the later combined Car No. Transfer box instruction plate.

I still think your four screw holes in a square are the "Important" notice.

This second post throws me back to where I was before, in that I read this to say that my tag in question should now be in the passengers compartment on the firewall, being a 1950 model and my transfer case plate does not have the car number stamped on it!
These are my radiator housing plates:

    and my Transfer case plate:

Diana, you may remember that Sweet Pea was fitted with a 53 firewall following an early in her life accident, hence the screw holes won't be in the right place or even existent in some cases.

That tag apparently should have been fitted to the firewall on the engine side and my firewall has no signs whatsoever of ever having that tag fitted.
With her numbers fitting pretty well into a mid year production time-frame I can only surmise that when Sweetpea suffered her accident and the firewall was replaced, all her labels didn't quite make the transition.
The only ones I seem to be missing are the ones with the Chassis number on it and the "Warning" one that was fitted to the right hand side. I am making the assumption that because the screws and the screw holes are on the firewall on the right hand side of the steering column that she would have been originally fitted with a plastic "Warning" sign that has not lasted the distance.
My biggest problem is with the "Made by" sign that I originally enquired about as I have the sign itself but cannot find where I would have taken it from. I have checked all my earlier "before" photographs and it doesn't show up in any of them.

    Regards
    Glen
