Here are a couple of photos of them at the Toowoomba Show Grounds.
Both cars have Army drivers there as well.

Thanks, you were doing it while I was posting.
Read all those last year. Still cant find the explanation for drivers from different services.
What colour beret and what regiment they came from.
Hi Keith,
I have spoken to the ex-Australian Protective Service officer who used to drive the two later Series Land Rovers and the Daimler (just to keep them running) that were stationed in Sydney at the Commonwealth Vehicle Pool. He is trying to find some of the retired Commonwealth drivers who may have other photos. Not sure yet if only Army drivers drove in the first Royal Tour but certainly in later Tours there were also what would be now called "close protection" officers from the Commonwealth Police and some from the Commonwealth Investigation Service involved in the immediate vicinity (to look out for troublemakers such as those who write letters to the Queen and Governor-General about real or imagined grievances and mentally disturbed persons who considered they were of Royal descent) and they were all competent to drive the various vehicles if necessary.
When he finds out more I will add to this great thread.

Yes I know it was very disappointing to see a car of that vintage in mint condition having that done to it.
What he did tell me about the car is that it only had 8000 k's or miles on the clock and it was serviced every 3 months by the government mechanics.
If you want any more information about it you should give them a call I am sure he will send you some pictures and a story about the vehicle if you ask.
