I thought I might use this old hard top I dragged out from under the bushes.
Gave it a good pressure wash and it looks not too bad.
Under all the layer of paint I can just read the original sign writing. At first I thought it was Field Survey Unit, now not so sure.
Survey Unit looks OK but the first word finishes with a D but seems to have an O in there.
    Any ideas?

Looking at the hardtop, I thought of an old rusty series 3 wagon down the back.
Why not use the Safari roof off it.
    Make things cooler inside.
So I did, pinched the roof and Alpine windows off it.

I thought you had already gone
    Keep safe up there.
It was not easy, a bit of cut and shut involved but it will work out OK.
Going to the coast Tuesday to buy some carpet to line it with.

    Spare wheel carrier

    Swingaway.
When in the transport position the load is taken on the step.
Quite pleased with this. No rattles as I put a bit of rubber each side where it fixes to the tailgate attatchment point.

Keith it looks a little strange with out the spare wheel in place but looks much better with it in place once the top goese on it should not be so noticable.

    Hey, you got back safely

I have the top upside down ready to stick in some marine carpet for a liner. Once thats done I will bolt it on.
The four rooftop vents are rusted up so need to free them first as well.

Got the roof lined OK and the vents in.
Now the hard top is bolted on. I pinched the tropical roof from a series 3 wagon and had to widen it about 6 inches. Still not as wide as it should be but it will work OK. I will paint it with a white thermoguard type paint to make it even cooler.IMG_1980.jpg

Dont know why the pic went there.
I bought some nylon rod and drilled it to make the spacers. Ran some stainless steel mushroom head bolts up from the inside into stainless rivnuts on the top. These were not riveted, but fitted into the hole in the spacer.
