    Vacuum offtake

    Hello from Sherwood.

Making a bit of progress on getting my truck back together. Another question to keep that process moving forward.

I’m fitting boosted brakes to a Series 3 truck that never had them originally. So, there is no offtake point on the present inlet manifold for the vacuum hose - the engine is from an earlier 2A model that also didn’t have boosted brakes.

Does it matter where the manifold is actually tapped for the offtake nipple and hose? I have seen a manifold on a Game that had the offtake hose fitting centred behind the manifold below the carburettor. The parts manual shows a pipe that appears to be fitted on top of the manifold towards the end near the firewall.

    Cheers,

    Neil

    Hello again from Brisbane.

Just wondering if there was any thoughts on the best location for the vacuum hose offtake on a manifold that doesn’t already have one.

    Cheers,

From memory there is a flat cast on the top of the manifold for the purpose, behind the carburettor. But the actual location is not critical.

    its not critical BUT...

    IMHO..

its best to draw it off directly under the carby from a bolt in plate.

you might also want to consider an electric vac pump.

    Hello and thanks.

I’m not the most gifted mechanic - but I try. Could you expand on how that is actually best configured?

    Cheers,

grab a 10mm plate of ally, cut out the holes for the carby, side drill it and fit an 8mm barb.

think adaptor plate and you're on the right track
