Even though my loose sense of time has bitten, I let the other half know, her and her's in Dubbo will keep an eye out (however unlikely).

I think we’re going to have to look into getting gps trackers for our Defenders like they’re doing in UK. The problem is it’s an extra monthly phone cost but it’s cheaper than loosing your irreplaceable Defender.

I had a 300Tdi Ute stolen from Windsor railway station in 2000. Cops never found any parts of it. I replaced that with a Td5 Ute which I had fitted with a Quiktrak alarm/tracking/immobilizer. So I get alarms via txt or phone call depending on the nature of the alarm., can track in real time or playback. These guys are expensive (I still have the td5) and am sure there are better/cheaper options out there now that can integrate with your dashcam etc.

I use an Aldi simcard in mine . Prepaid option $15 or $30 lasts 365 days , get the $15.00 one , theres enough usage on it to SMS track your vehicle, its easy to top up via computer if you need add credit if it does get nicked, Cheap Insurance. But too bad the Insurance companies don't give you a good deal for having one !!

Yeah, the insurance companies give you no discount at all. The Quiktrak unit cost around $2k in 2000 and now has an annual subscription cost of $360, so basically $1 a day on top of your insurance.

Seriously! My dog has a GPS/WiFi/Bluetooth/3G tracker that does all of that and its a lot cheaper! It may not be adaptable, perhaps it may be also, but check out Podtrackers.

So what should we be buying nowadays? Maybe I should start a new thread?
