Replacing viscous fan with Thermo??

The viscous on the LR serp belt has a standard RH thread,
The viscous for the LR v-belt has a reverse LH thread, same as the Ford viscous.

so im sure Bee utey is correct with the info of only being able to use the Ford viscous on a v-belt.

If there is a Ford viscous with a standard RH thread, please tell me where to source it from, because i couldn't find 1 new or old.

My memory is a serp belt V8 Falcon (possibly EF / EL) had a RH thread. But I am working from a hazy memory of a job I did about 10 years ago!

Just looked up the Nuline pulley catalogue online and it shows a CCW driven water pump on the EL V8 so in theory if there's a viscous fan it would run a RH thread.

And there's one available right here...

Who knows, the Fords certainly work hard for a living. But there's a genuine LR fan clutch suit serp belts here:

I put a bit of effort in, not world class but it did the job and the fans have been faultless since fitted, this includes 35 degree days towing 2 tonnes of pavers recently.

Been on there since before those posts and I wouldn't dream of changing back. The biggest advantage IMO is icy cold air-con sitting in traffic on a 40 degree day :cool:

I've kept my entire viscous setup (still in working order) all this time as I was not sure how this setup would go but its not let me down yet.

Stuee, good post on the fan install :thumbsup: and with your comments, your spot on with idling and the A/C temp etc, but why so much wiring for the fans??????

The condenser fans on the front are next to useless anyway so these get chucked. The wiring you have for them then becomes free to use.

The water outlet has a fan switch that operates the condenser fans when it gets to 105C to give extra cooling.
You simply change this switch to a lower switch temp, mine is on@90 off@85.
Unless you want the original wiring to be a relay active only and feed the fans direct from the battery, theres no need to wire in all the additionals as its already built in, plus switch on the A/C and the fans will start automatically.

My RRC has two fuses, one for each condenser fan. Plus removing the condenser fans de-clutters the input side of the radiator.
Even with bullbar and 4 huge spotties on the front, I havent had any issues in the 5 years I have had my fans on.
