    Td5 Thermostat connections

Are the two hoses on the right in the pictures below connected back to front?
The pictures on the RAVE cd look to have it the other way around (Not that they are very good images)

Photos to verify would be good ...

    Thanks

Hi, I just took a few pics of an aquaintance's car the other day, who had his harmonic balancer fly to pieces, taking out his thermo fan and shroud.

The hose arrangement looks the same as your pic and this one still has the original type clamps.

    Thanks Erich.
I think that one looks like the pic I posted from RAVE and is the opposite to mine.

    Here's a close-up of yours.

Awabit6,yours is definitely wrong ,as you guessed.
Interesting as one branch goes to the outlet hot hose from the engine, water inlet to t/stat as the other goes to the waterpump inlet.
The water from the outlet hose of the engine bypasses the radiator, probably to help speed up warmup.

Thanks. This might be the reason that I am in the middle of a head gasket repair - a simple error by the previous owner ...

Can anyone else confirm with pics?

After several double checks, yours is also opposite to mine.
Its a hell of a job to fit correctly, cant imagine it was easier that way as the steel pipes are different diameter.

You are correct, as mentioned previously, the hoses are swapped. What made you look for a problem - overheating?

This would be an extremely difficult one to fault find as you would assume this was correct! There are a hundred other things on a TD5 which one would look at first.

The car was overheating and there was bubbling in the heater matrix. This lead me to the head gasket. I figured that head gaskets don't fail for no reason, so I started looking - I hope this is it!
