    Panel beating

    Hi all,

I had a minor altercation with a rock hiding in a bush the other week when my friend wrongly directed me up the dirt bike track not the 4x4 track. It has left me with a nice dent in aluminium sill that runs beneath the doors on my 110 defender.

The sill is catching on the door now so needs to be straightened.

The good thing about the defender is that the panel should be flat to start so I don’t have to worry about radius’ etc. And small dents only 'add character’ anyway.

I am not bothered about getting it perfect just acceptable. Having newer attempted any body work before does anyone have any tips hints or advice about how I should go about it? Are there any special tools I need to do this with?

I have dented my other sill to a lesser extent too so rock/tree sliders are now on my shopping list!

    Thanks for your help.

    David

If it helps you can kind of see the damage here:

It is just infront of the folded up step.

    G'day David

being a beater myself I would get a panel hammer and a flat dolly to start with. Basicaly place the dolly under where the dent is and putting presaure on the dolly then lightly hit the dent down until you get clearance for or door or until it's straight. Can't really see the damage. If you can't get a dolly in there I'd suggest just tapping the dent lighty until your happy with the repair. Depending on the dent you can also use a dent puller but there not cheap. If you can take a closer pic that would be great. Too bad your not in melb otherwise I'll tell ya to come over and I'll repair it for ya.

Just remove them and fit sliders in their place.

I have a set of good sills - free to a good home.
