Thread: ABS Pump / New Brake Pads RR cLASSIC

Hi Mike,

Could be bad news, but it does require more checking. If the brake pads have been changed, and the pistons have been pushed back in the calipers without clamping the brake lines and opening the bleeder, the process can push dirty fluid back into the ABS modulator. Goodbye modulator.

If it wasn't making any noise prior to the changeover, I would be asking the question. Probably prudent to get a second opinion ( or third ) before tackling your service agent.

.....I will re discuss this with the dealer on Tuesday ..at least now I have an idea of the possible cause of the problem.It seems likely that this has happened as they flushed and replaced the brake fluid as well, being part of the service and there was certainly no noise before I took the old dear in .

Pump is well and truly knackered .........whirring away constantly which is making me spit chips !!

Maybe the pressure switch?

I am still steaming about this as I feel that the garage is trying to pull the wool over my eyes ...........and I have an unsafe vehicle over the holiday weekend.......

Cannot think that this is just a huge coincidence that the thing goes whilst in the workshop !

More than likely the accumulator, or as ron suggests pressure switch possibly. I would also be wondering if the system was bled out properly. This can prevent the pressure from building up adequately to enable the pump to cut out.

All great knowledge for me and it gives me something to suggest to the service agent......

Have just been for another short run with a few stops and starts and the pump has no gone to being noisy only when I press the brake and the brake warning light has gone out too ......

I am guessing the accumulator is not as expensive as the pump ? .....and the same for pressure switch ?

The accumulator is an item that eventually fails. Replacement wouldn't be a waste of money. Not cheap, though.

I don't think the pressure switch is available separately - it come with the pump.
