Solenoid - troubleshooting question blows out exhaust port

Just finished installing ARB new rear locker, new axles, stub axles & converted drum to disks including booster in my Salisbury equipped V8 85 county. Everything has gone well and the brakes are a substantial improvement!

The compressor drives the solenoids to the front and rear lockers, the front of which is a JacMac, which is the MAC brand solenoid and the rear is ARBs proprietary item which comes with the new rear locker.

The problem is that when the front locker is turned off (no air - checked) the air passes through the MAC solenoids exhaust port (wont seal) - meaning the compressor runs constantly. When you engage the JacMac front locker the locker engages (pressurises) the pressure sensor in the compressor then turns off. Net result is you must lock both diffs - not desirable.

Have been over the wiring per diagram and the multimeter the solenoid turns on (voltage) and off (zero volts) as it should. I guess I am up for a new solenoid but I am perplexed that it only now it not working as it has worked fine for a 3 years.

The ARB solenoid is fine and when you engage both lockers the compressor stops after a few ticks and recharges every few minutes - so no problem with the lockers themselves.

Rebuilt the compressor piston and rings as the big end needle bearing disintegrated.

Has anyone had this problem? Or does anyone have any clues/tips before I fork out for new solenoid? Or is it something I have overlooked?

    Thanks

    Clive

I'm not too sure what your problem is, but you state: "The ARB solenoid is fine and when you engage both lockers the compressor stops after a few ticks and recharges every few minutes - so no problem with the lockers themselves.", my ARB setup doesn't allow the front diff to be engaged unless the rear diff is engaged, and if as you say above that your compressor kicks in every few minutes, then I think you have a leak somewhere. Once my diffs are locked in the compressor never "recharges every few minutes", hope this helps, Regards Frank.

... when the front locker is turned off ... the air passes through the MAC solenoids exhaust port ...
Hard to say what the problem is without seeing how it is hosed up - it sounds like something might be connected incorrectly.

When the solenoid of the MAC valve is energised to engage the front locker, the air should flow from the compressor's air reservoir, through the MAC valve to the actuator for the front locker.

When the solenoid of the MAC valve is de-energised to unlock the front diff, the air should flow from the actuator for the front locker, through the MAC valve to exhaust - the pressure port should be closed inside the valve.

MAC valves are the best quality pneumatic valves you could buy - far, far better than most, including what ARB supply. MAC valves generally cost more $$, but when reliability and quality are essential, there is little else to choose from.

It isn't essential to follow ARB's circuit. Their circuit prevents accidental engagement of the front locker unless the rear is locked first, resulting in difficult steering.

ARB wired mine up so that I can engage either front or rear first. My choice which I engage first.

The safety is that I must engage the compressor first then either of the lockers
