You have an air leak or the timing is too advanced.
The cold idle motor may be seized a bit open so try isolating it .
Seeing you have replaced the dizzy , what is the static timing ?

Hi All, I have a 3.5 Efi in an 88 RR. My first true love has been sitting in the shed for 4 years unloved, finally using her for a daily commute, had some dizzy issues but have replaced with another unit, the idle seems to be 1050 Rpm. How do I adjust the idle down a bit, The idle is still high even after a 25km drive and the temperature gauge is where it always sits for the last 15 years seemingly up to temp? What would be the correct timing set at what rpm?
Thanks Geoff

I am unsure how to set/test static timing?
at 1050rpm it was about 6 deg btdc.
Where do I find the cold idle motor, what does that look like?
Until now I have usually just driven the old girl, I have not much of an idea on the under bonnet side.![]()
Cold idle motor, also known as slide valve. It lives on the front drivers side of the inlet manifold. It has a 3/4 inch hose on each side and should be plugged in with a clip-on 2 wire plug. It takes air from one side of the throttle and lets it into the plenum chamber. If the hoses are still pliable, squeeze one hose and see how much the idle drops. If the revs drop a lot then it is probably sticking.
also know as the extra air valve or EAV in the workshop manuals
