Your spot on with the engine number mate,156800766. thanx for web address, ur a pretty helpfull mob, id post a pic but still learnen how to post stuff , this sites even better when u learn how to do stuff. Ya mate 60 series cruiser with rover donk in the back theres proberly a law against that a, 3 other series rovers out the back so i am still on the good side.
ya can all rest easy the rover engine and cruiser have gone there seperate ways, it left a protest in the form of a puddle of oil in the cruiser, in the shed getting a clean up now, now the headace of finding the differance between the 2ltr and 2.25ltr havent found much on the net but thats no suprise with me, isuzurovers post very helpful but i guess i gotter know for sure before i get to keen.
According to this site:
Land Rover FAQ - History, Production, Sales - Chassis Numbering
You have a series II engine (1958/9-1961). Which would make it a 2L (series II became IIA when they changed from 2L to 2.25L).
They are not a very common engine in Australia AFAIK. There may be someone doing a resto who would be happy to swap for a 2.25D.
Probably best to post in the Series II/A section for more info. I have never worked on a 2L. I believe they run wet liners, which may be hard to find if you have to replace them.
u sound like ur in the know so uv nearly convinced me, il give the site a read tonight, dont suppose ya know if its the bore or stroke thats the differance.
Than it shall stay a 2ltr- no drama, as enjoy the character speeds no consideration any one behind me will just have to appreciate and respect a vehicle that help build the country, after the horse that is. all the other rovers iv had all have red motors :o itle be good to get the hands in a rover motor, suppose ill rip the head off and measure the bore. thanks for the help mate:)
I agree that it is most likely a series 2 2 litre diesel. Taylor indicates the following numbers for series 1 diesels
57 - 1167-00001 (rhd 88), 1197-00001 (lhd 88), 1267-00001 (rhd 109), 1297-00001 (lhd 109)
58 - 1168-00001 (rhd 88), 1198-00001 (lhd 88), 1268-00001 (rhd 109), 1298-00001 (lhd 109)
So your engine number of 156800766 is not in this series of numbers so logically is a later engine. Is it in fact a 2 litre and not a 2.25?
