Why don't you just by a UPS from a computer store?
I have my DVD recorder on one.
I have my ASDL router/network/phone on another.
I have my computer on another one.
You can also pick them up real cheap s/h but they may need new batteries.
I'm looking to run a pond pump from 240V through a CTEK 15000 charger, into deep cycle battery then through an inverter. Thus, when the power goes out, the battery powers the pump until the power comes back on.
I've been told this is feasible, but I'd like to know is it possible to add more batteries to this model? i.e. can the CTEK charge more than 1 battery (running parallel) at the same time?

I'm using a 3Kva UPS now, or was until it recently packed it in. I think it's the controller, not the battery unfortunately.
A UPS would be feasible if I could afford one big enough. The pump is designed to keep the fish alive in an aquaponics system, so it needs to be able to run a 130W pump for 15 minutes every hour for at least 24 hours.
I already have a 105Ah deep cycle and a CTEK 15000, so thought I might as well put them to use.
I like the 'smarts' of an UPS, it's just getting one big enough, cheap enough. Are the batteries in most smaller ones 6V or 12V? I wonder how I could go hooking my deep cycle up to a small, cheap UPS. Would it be able to handle the 12V, and would it keep it efficiently charged?
the ctek 1500 is a 15amp charger from memory should cope with up to 300ah of batteries i would have thought.

I think its all a case of finding the right UPS at the right price. My small (desk top) one runs off a single 12V 7AH cell. I picked up a heavy 500W unit for $5 the other day off ebay and it runs 4 off 12V cells in series. I will be trying it with 4 matched oversize SLA's soon. Please note that the makers of these things may not isolate the batteries from the mains so that you would have to proceed with extra caution and safely encase and connect larger cells.
Now I know you have an aquaponics system the real question is.. what kind of fish, and should I sneak over one night and pinch them ?

I would go for a UPS. Most servers using a UPS can support 500W+ for at least an hour or so. My old place of employ could hold up a server, 4 ADSL modems and routers and a call forwarder to our mobiles from the phone line switchy thing for about 90 minutes before things became critical.

I think a UPS capable of running my 130W pump for 15min every hour for 24 hours (i.e. 6 hours continuously) would be too expensive. Also, I already own a CTEK 15A charger and a 105Ah deep cycle battery.
Unless someone can point me to a UPS that I can hook up to this deep cycle battery, I'll go with the CTEK > battery > inverter > pump approach.
I've done a bit of research, and it appears there can be issues in connecting batteries to a UPS that are much larger than what the UPS is designed for.
This can cause overheating and inability to charge the batteries.
I think I'll end up sticking with the charger > battery > inverter > pump solution.
