    Dog Point Screws

    Can anyone here source these...

Today I have finally managed to blow the front CWP wile reversing out of a nasty gully after I got hung up on a log

I only have four more spare 3.54 diffs here so want to peg them from now on.

I pegged a 4.7 in our 109 with a 5/8 bolt and two nuts but makes awful noises when the crown wheel works against it

I want to do the next one a little more scientifically.

I am about to change over to 3.54s, what is involved in pegging them and what are the benifits? Have heard of the term but know nothing about it.
    Thanks

It only helps the crown wheel not flex away from the pinion when pushed hard.

    Dog Point Screws

Try Rudd Industrial Supplies over here in W of A Tony or give me a size and I will ring them and let you know.
These guys have no end of specialist industrial items.

    Cheers

    Thanks.
I'll weld a plate, bore a hole and take some measurements with the blown diff.

Cedray at Silverwater used to be my go to place for bolts from the good suppliers (eg SPS-Unbrako, Holo-Krome, etc) but don't know if they are still around.
Basically if they didn't have it no one on Oz did.

Ashcrofts use a phosphor bronze rubbing plate IIRC.

They are in the Unbrako catalogue so any decent bolt shop or engineer's supplier will have them or get them. Try Fred Goddard, Bolts Steel and Tools Australia, 07 3395 0311, or fred@fastenersales.com

OK I've got the Screws sorted. I'm getting a hand full as likely will do most of my Rover diffs here.
Looks like the only economical way of getting the phosphor bronze is in round bar form. Wont be a problem, as I have a small mill here to shape it accurately.
I'll make a template/Jig so they are all the same to simplify things in the future.

I think it would be best to strip the diff all out, then use the forge to preheat the housing before welding the bracketry.

Try George Weston & Sons, Brisbane for the phosphor bronze, 07 3348 9999 sales@georgeweston.com.au. They have been metals merchants since supplying copper nails and roves to Noah.

The dog point grub screws may be cheaper buying in a box lot. Ask.

Did you know that a grub screw is what you have when you go home for lunch?

I haven't heard that saying since we lost our old handy man. He was a boom boom engineer during WW2. (Apparently was hard on bridges) He always came out with the most amazing quotes. If I recited some them here I would get banned! I do miss him these days to be honest.
