    Worn out hinges ...

    Hi All,

I have a classic 1981 RR two door (my baby) and both doors are sagging due to worn out lower hinges (funny that, can't be anything to do with size of doors ....... )

My question is do any other hinges on LR models interchangable with RR two door as all other replacement s/hand doors I have found have the same issue with them.
I have been told I could remove pin and drill hole out and replace pin with high tensile bolt, has anyone done this before seem quite straight forward but are there any pitfall that I should watch out for like ...........door falling off

    Your thoughts appreciated,

    Baggy

When mine became bad, I had a friend in the Navy make up Monel pins which he knurled for me. He was head of Cockatoo Island workshop so had the apprentices do it.
AFAIR and this is 18 or so years ago, the problem is that the pins are 6MM and the next bolt size is 8MM which is really too big and leaves little meat. So my friend made the pins 7MM.
So maybe have some 8MM bolts turned down to 7MM and Knurled.

I now do not remember the exact diameters but the size gap is the problem.

You can buy them online from the UK still. Try John Craddocks or Paddock Spares, et al. but may be more exy than you want to spend. Still they'd be brand new.... can't remember what the price was though it might have been around the GBP30 each???
