they make them from around 2500kg up to about 30000kg if I remember correctly they also put out a hydralic/electric jobbie as well
An APU would be ideal. Operable on diesel, ample hydraulic power for front and rear winches, as well as compressed air and electrical power. Would mount well on a trayback Rover, can run if the engine was unable to be started (which could be handy in rivers, and "depth unchecked" bogholes:D).Quote:

the Ox or TJM hyd winch are made (or were) by Mile Marker in the USA....not there cheap elec version.

considering your PS pump flows about 6lt/min they are running 1/10th their comfortable speed. They are 2 speed winches as well.
I have mine runing of a MD pto and cross hyd pump that flows 60lt/min in 4th at "x" rpm.

hyd resiviour
hyd pump
pressure relief valve
solinoid control
hyd filter
pick up filter/s in tank
appropriate hoses and fittings
i also had a double over center valve fitted to the winch, should i loose oil pressure or burst a hyd line the winch will hold and not spool out. The motor needs oil pressure to stop it roatating under load....
it runs very smooth, fast as i need it. it pulls very very well. center difflock engaged, handbrake fully on and foot as much pressure on brake and i cant hold it.....

I have an OX hydraulic on my 300 Defender.
Maybe a bit slow, but does it all day at idle. EEEZZZEEEE!!!!!!
No extra levers in cab, just the two levers for hi in/out and lo in/out on the winch body. This gives hi, lo speeds plus locked and freespool. All normal here.
Runs off steering pump - no probs. Just slows while adjusting steering.
Control for fwd/reverse/off is by hand control - 2m cable. Plug is on bull bar.
BUT NO CHANCE of foul play by shorting the pins as motor has to be running.
No need for a second battery, although I do have one. Just a protected control wire from battery to solenoid in winch hyd circuit, then wires to plug and ground.
Hose fittings, valve and fit up bolts/brackets are specific to vehicle model.
No maintenance problems.:)

Thats one I've been looking at, except it was much cheaper on Ebay.
It's oil flow is up to 60L, and the TD5 steering pump has an oil flow of only 8.5L/min, so it would be rather slow. I don't think the ACE pump would be any faster either. Could look at fitting a faster pump where the idler goes, but at this point it might just be easier to go electric.

regaring going electric, try and compare apples to apples.

Warn winch,
good quality second battery
good quality dual battery set up
all cables etc required
then look at line speed and pull. Yes there is the argument about engine not running and the elec will still pull. BUT try this, turn motor off and see how far you can pull on just your batteries and then restart you car....imagine if you were in mud etc
as i have a diesel if i cant winch, motor is not working, id say i have bigger problems than just being stuck
