Why is there always a fixation with Bosch alternators for a 300Tdi? I had mine repaired by a plain old Denso agent who was able to get whatever parts were required and it was less than $100. Not sure who did it but my mechanic sent it off so I doubt it would have travelled far.
Maybe contact PJL Diesel as above and find out how much for a new one, I'm pretty sure its an Iskra 11203205. Might be cheaper than a new Denso one.

They also have a high output, dust proof 120AMP version with dual internal fans - ALT7814

Bosch are OEM for most of the Mercedes passenger and commercial truck & bus vehicles and believe me, warranty claims abound... :wasntme:.
I believe Leece Neville may have a range of smaller sized units these days unless you can fit a C-15 CAT pad mount under there somewhere!

Because Bosch is fitted to pretty much every locally made vehicle so they are cheap and plentiful- i'm not paying $00 for a LR alt if i dont have to.Quote:

Regarding this rear needle roller being unsealed, after replacing grease in mine I put an O ring from a box of assorted ones over the rear rotor shaft. Trial and error to find the best fitting size. Best sealing one should probably give slight resistance to assembly and turning when assembled. Haven't yet pulled mine apart again to check durability of this O ring, but hopefully it is still there keeping all dust out.
Another modification I did to standard Magneti Marelli alternator while it was apart: Noticed that compared with Bosch ones it had very few holes in the housing to allow cooling air (which is expelled by the fan next to the pulley) in. So bored some more in places where there is nothing behind them to obstruct air flow. This should make it less prone to cooking itself with heavy electrical load in hot conditions. Probably the O ring dust seal on the rear bearing would be more necessary with the extra air - and dust with it passing through the alternator.
Managed to source a denso 120amp unit for $260 inc gst as a replacment as my retifier/ reg/windings were all stuffed- but i have to wait a week for it to get here:(. Oh well better keep the battery charged up then.
