Range Rover 86model-Steering is hard to turn

    Hi Guys,
Has any body got any suggestions about the steering on my 86 range rover. It is hard to turn on concrete or tare at a stand still. I have a new steering box and run an older power steering pump out of a 2 door rangie. Is there any difference between pressure ratings between an 2 door pump to a 86 4 door pump? I swapped pumps put another 2 door pump in and made no difference.
I run a chev thats why I went to different pump because it was easier to fit. I run 33x12.5x15 inch copper ST's. In the past it has been alright but gradually it got worse. I had troubles with the baffle lining in the reservoir blocking the inlet to the pump which I fixed.

    Has anyone got any suggestions?

    Regards Paul

yep check the uni joint at the steering box end, was causing my stiff steering and heavier return to centre effect. you might aswell replace it as mine felt ok-ish when i got it out but differance once replaced was chalk and cheese!

    Stiff steering 86 Rangie
    Thanks for that info,

Yesterday I changed over the uni joints and the rubber coupling out of a wreck I had. It made it easier to turn. I will install a brand new one shortly.
