almost, although I think for a 50mm longer extended shock you would not need to change a thing.
I have been given some +2" springs and want to get longer REAR shocks as well. I don't want to move the OEM mounts.
I'm wondering how long I can go before the trailing arms starts to bind?
I'm making the assumption I'll need longer bump stops.
Is it as easy as, get shocks say 50mm longer, (extended) get a bump stop 25mm extended and thats about it?
almost, although I think for a 50mm longer extended shock you would not need to change a thing.
I rule!!!
2.4" of Pure FURY!!!
Extending your bumpstops is just going to limit your up travel?
All I can say is why????
Longer shocks will have a longer compressed length.
Needing the bump stops to be extended to prevent the shocks bottoming out.

Terra firma +2" have "internal" bump stops. I'm not really sold on the idea as I don't think the shock mounts where designed to absorb the force of a bottom out.

I have just fitted +2 springs and shcoks on my 85 RRC.
With 32's finding the tyre rubs on the inner wing so fitted extended bump stops to stop this.
If you fit a set of lowered shock mounts it will increase you downward travel a little.
LRA do them and they are not bad on price also if you are worried about your trailing arms weld a lenght of angle iron on the leading edge to reinforce it.
LRA do a rather funky White tiger cranked trailing arm bush that is already at an angle and should assist with prolonging the life of the mods and also give a bit more travel.

Thanks for that I have some modded trailing arms but haven't put them on yet.
Thing is with shocks if you go to a suspension place and ask for shocks "suitable" for a +2" lift they will usually offer you standard shocks as stabdard shocks will run fine on +2" springs.
Did you actually measue the closed and extended lengths to see if you actually got +2" shocks?
I was thinking of the extended stops to prevent the shocker from bottoming out, I have cut my arches so don't really need to worry about them.
I found some realy good info on another site with a table of shocker open/closed lengths from different manufacturers that are suitable for the RRC. It also suggests Lancruiser 80/100 series is a bolt on replacement for RRC shocks and they are at least 2" longer so I might just get them rather than trying to find extended shocks.
The good thing is cruiser shocks can be bought anywhere and will probably be cheaper.
Hangover - can you please post a link to this website you speak of?
Im considering doing the same thing as you, getting the best shock lengths for the rear without modifying too much.
What compressed/uncompressed lengths have you decided on?
cheers, Steve.
this is the site: land rover shock specifications
I havent really decided 100% I'll prbably just go for the cruiser shocks which add an extra 50mm all round. An extra 2" of down travel would be good and much more than that i'm thinking bushes and arms might start to bind. I toyed with the idea of removing a shock and jacking up the body with a high lift to see how much the diffs would drop before they bind. Im in no hurry though. I'd really like to get some of those rose joint arms but they cost $$$$ so I'll just make do with what I have without spending too much. Ideally I'd higher front mounts and relocate the rear but its just more $$$
I understand where your coming from but IMO down travel is more desiarable off road than up travel, several times I've been stopped due to lack of down travel but cant ever remember coming to a halt due to not enough up travel
If I need to reduce one in order to increase the other then it would be the up travel.
Yes I'd like to relocate shock mounts its just a $$$ thing, longer bump stops are around what, I guess $50, relocate shock mounts all round again, a guess, $400-$500. I could even get the longer shocks and bump stops now then at a later date when i win lotto move the mounts.
