Dont know why we would "lose" it as it's nose frontage is lower than the latest toy fridge's frontage(aka new prado) all thats needed is a redesign of the bumper and maybe a full interior redesign to allow wider behinds to fit and not such a large centre box as well as a bit more leg room in the mid row and some clips for baby capsules. Flog the crash can set up out of the original disco to allow for airbags and put in the 2.7 td for ease of parts cominality (maybe an auto for the U.s) and you could sell it worldwide with abs/ airbags and a v6 td that meets all the relevant standards.

When Mercedes starts selling the "G" wagon for around the same money.
I think this should be in general chit chat.

I take issue with your description of it as the "iconic Defender shape".

Surely it is the "iconic Land Rover shape".

After all the Defender is pretty much the same shape as the Series Land Rovers (you know, those proper Land Rovers with leaf springs).

    1973 Series III LWB 1983 - 2006
    1998 300 Tdi Defender Trayback 2006 - often fitted with a Trayon slide-on camper.

I think 2014 is about right - with the proviso that the Defender may possibly continue as with the RR Classic, only built in India or China. But whether that version would be allowed under ADRs is another matter!

The problem is that while redesigning the Defender to meet all new rules would be quite possible, it would be too expensive for the number being built, so it is almost certain to change to the D3/D4 platform to use their already paid for development cost. I expect a D3/4 restyled to look a bit like a Defender, in the same way that a "Hummer" is an off the shelf Chevrolet restyled to look a bit like an HMMWV.

Was it a new discovery ute or the one made in Victoria from a rolled near new DII by stretching the wheelbase and merging the cab with the rear wall of two Mazda Bravo ute cabs?

It looked soooo good people at the Victorian 4X4 show were going up to the LRA stand wanting to know where they could order one.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

It was D3 based and was in a few newspapers shortly after the D3 was launched. Computer rendering rather than actual vehicle.

I think a D4 ute/trayback would be a great vehicle, but I suspect it would also need to be stretched to make it usable and would that detract from the market sector that JLR is aiming Discovery?
