Thread: Disco still not fixed

For yr info there were a batch of "aftermarket" disc 2 hubs that were faulty in regards to the abs sensor position . It appears that when the hubs were copied the sensor was too far away from the abs ring and as such wld not work the way it shd.

We now only sell genuine hubs.

The front and rear sensors are now available 2 ways;
1. original design with plug
2. new modified type with longer wiring that by passes the plug and wires into junction box.

Apparently the plug caused problems in the field.

Thanx K i thought as much. What does a genuine hub go for these days? I take it you still buy the whole assy for a disco 2?.

ok had a look at the disco this morning, and for some reason the abs ecu wont communicate to nanocom when driving? is this normal? i wouldn't have thought so but anyway with the car switched on but not running i get a fault code of 20-08 rear right too low. now the fault can be cleared and won't come back until driven over approx 20 kmhr. Now i would have thought that if it was a harness issue then the fault wouldn't be able to be cleared at all. I still think the dealer has just got two faulty hubs as i don't believe they are the genuine ones. Anyone got any ideas?

On the isssue of reading faults with engine running the nanocom documentation states:

"DIAGNOSTIC FUNCTIONS OF THE ABS-SLS SLABS (DiscoveryII)
All the diagnostic functions have to be performed with the Ignition turned on to the second step and the engine may be running or stopped. In many vehicles the communication with this module can be noisy and this will not allow the Nanocom to communicate with this module when the engine is running. It is possible to perform the diagnostic function also with the engine stopped, moving the wheel by hand; the only parameters that results unreadable are the engine speed and the engine torque. This problem can be in some case fixed by checking the ecu’s ground connection and the OBD socket’s ground connection. If the ground is well connected and the problem is still present we suggest to ask us the hardware adaptor that improves the noise reduction of the Nanocom OBD port.

FAULTS FUNCTIONS
The SLABS ecu has the READ FAULTS and CLEAR FAULTS to read and clear the fault codes. We don’t give
any faults explanation or suggestions, in order to avoid giving the user wrong information, we in fact think
that the faults codes must be collocated in the context of the car which they come from."

I can't find a "20-08" fault number listed in my Nanocom documentation.
There was a faults listing in an early version (Ver 1.2) of the Nanocom manual but the later version (Ver 2.0) does not have a list.

Went in for 160k check and it was noted that the rear right hub was leaking, i knew this but didn't know you had to buy whole assy to fix but anyway i scheduled it in a few days after to get the hub swapped out. After the dealer swapped the hub out he couldn't get the abs to work and he thought that the new hub was faulty as it wasn't giving any signal at all. So after he put the old hub back on the abs still didn't work but he presumed that he had disturbed the sensor because it was sending intermittant signals and logging old faults not current ones, and a new hub would fix it. Well today the new hub was fitted and guess what same thing is happenening and now he thinks the fault may lie in the loom to the rear right, he bypassed the co nnectors but that still didn't fix it so is waiting for a whole loom to come from lr. He also mentioned that the front right had already had a new loom fitted without the connectors so maybe the vehicle is prone to it happening.
Now I have faith in the Dealer as Neil at suttons here is pretty knowledgable and he has also let me know whats going on the whole way (more importantly he hasn't charged me a cent, been 2 weeks now) but it is getting annoying as the disco is the taxi for the kids, 2 under 2, and working around it is just a pain.

So what i was wondering is if any one has had this problem before changing a hub? and has changing the loom fixed it?. Also the abs light is on permanently but the tc and hdc only come on when you get over 20kmhr, also the handbrake/low brake lvl light comes on at the same time? is this normal? now i know they are all braking defects but it seemed a bit strange that the handbrake light would come on?

Anyway i was going to have a look at it the morning so if any1 has any ideas on where to start looking it would be most appreciated.

Because it's a D2, and they have sealed non serviceable throwaway hubs.

Because the hub, bearings and seals comes as a pre assembled unit. The seals are not replaceable on their own.
