Here we go,,
With the screws I sourced some stainless steel one's.
With the 10 - 20mm below cold level, I raised mine a little higher i.e. more at the 10mm mark. I felt the earlier it went off the better we all would be.
My fello Landrovians,
I have an EMS 1 purchased this year that I am about to install into a D2A TD5, and I wanted to clarify what is required to install the Coolant Level Detector "sensor".
Reading the installation instructions found here:http://www.madman.co.za/downloads/em...ns_general.pdf
It says:
Select a suitable place on the plastic coolant bottle / plastic tank that is normally flooded with
coolant – choose a spot about 10 to 20 mm lower than the normal level.
I assume this means 10 to 20mm below the cold level?
Drill two small holes (1.5mm) about 25mm from each other in the same horizontal plane.
I assume this just means horizontal/level as opposed to vertical? (I feel stupid asking, but no as stupid as if I have to buy a new coolant bottle for drilling holes in wrong place.)
Last but not least, I didnt receive small self tapping screws with the kit, so will get some. What material screws should I use, given it must carry current, and it must resist (not react with) the coolant?

Just make sure that you take one of the screw's wire back to the earth wire of the EMS - I just earthed it nearby and it gave false alarms.
Or get the TD5 engine screw from Enginesaver. It's $10 and screws into the top hose.

The Engine Saver sensors are not available separately unless you are upgrading an older kit or need a replacement.
$10 wouldn't even come close to covering the cost price of a sensor.
Competitors have to develop their own screw in sensors if their customers don't want to drill holes in tanks.

Kev, as per the picture above, there are two wires, horizontally level. One goes direct to the ems harness, (the brown coolant level wire from memory). The other wire, black, is just a new earth wire (not supplied with EMS), although it has been suggested above it should be the same earth point as the black earth wire on the ems harness.
