    R380 in cold weather

I noticed that when cold lately the R380 is very notchy/harder to get into 2nd from 1st, after about 5 mins of driving and it's at operating temp it changes smoothely.
I have syntrax in it. ( this is the 1st winter I have used this oil.)
I haven't checked the bias springs on the selector, but it seems strange that it's only when cold.
Anyone else having probs in cold weather with syntrax

The problem is the oil - you should be using SynTrans not SynTrax - it is the wrong stuff.

There are plenty of very recent threads on this so have a look at them.

I ran ATF in mine for years because of that very same problem.I now use Redline MTL and my R380 will now change from cold on zero degree mornings. It took my gearbox 6 weeks to soften up when I did the change. Pat

As said it should be syntrans, or redline... ect ect etc..

Seems the r380 is fussy.. some like syntrans, some like redline, some like other stuff too.. but luck of the draw...

i have put syntrans in mine 2 days ago.. and its already loosening up on the notchy change... noticable when its warm and noticable when cold.. but still notchy when cold.. i expect it will wear in as Pat suggested too..

the one thing i noticed is with that and the penrite hypoid oil in the diff and transfer.. and the syntrans.. i seem to have lost some noise... its noticably quieter?

It can take up to 800km for the friction modifiers in a new brew to embed themselves into the synchro faces, or push the old ones put and embed themselves, or something like that......

BTW, some have used Syntrax in the past successfully, it just depends on the R380.
Some respond to slightly heavier fluids and some just don't take to them at all.
