Not sure where you are but a Land rover mechanic is the way to go.
A auto electrician is fine but only if they know what they are looking for.
Over heating is pretty much a death sentence on all vehicles not just landies.
Alloy heads will warp, twist and move and a good cooling system is a must and especially before being put under load like beach driving which can also cook a auto tranny(fit a oil cooler).
I believe you did a head gasket or a slipped liner.
A 98 model will have a 3.9L motor, if it does need a rebuild, I would suggest a 4.6, they go so much better. I know its only a slight increase but by golly, its chalk and cheese.
Good luck. Check compression and while there, perhaps also all hoses as a vacuum may have slipped off or something.
Fuel air lock also maybe if it got really hot under there.
